ESG Review of Halliburton
Summary

With reference to the ARV plan for the Wellesley/DNO 2023 HPHT campaign, and WE’s ARV plan 2023, as a major supplier Halliburton was selected for a review related to ESG, with special attention to projects – where Halliburton provides cementing and coring services.

This review was conducted 4th May at Halliburton’s premises at Tananger according to agenda. During the review the Review Team did not identify any non-conformances, observations or improvement suggestions, but we agreed on six (6) follow-up actions.

Operator (WE on behalf of) be more open for suggestions in Tender processes related to cementing alternatives.

May go away from Glass G cement, because it has strict API control on what other substances can be added. Class C is better in that respect. And the industry is also working on a new class L.

Secure opening for new solutions in tenders

Autumn 2023 – RfQ process: We have not asked for a specific class in the RfQ. Halliburton can come with their best recommendation, and we will assess that.

    Deadline was:

Usage of NeoCem E+ can reduce CO2 emissions with 50-70 %. 31 jobs have been performed with this cementing chemical so far, but not on HPHT wells. Use may also reduce rig time, but it is dependent on well design and Halliburton needs to study this chemical and opportunities further. Neocem E+ is now being tested, and a case study is ongoing on Scarabeo 8 for AkerBP.

30.10.23: Asked for this input and received it straight away (as this is confidential information, this info is not put into this report – Sent to Morten Laget, Phil Hardy and Giacomo Bonomo).
Information received: As things progress, Halliburton develop variations of this blend to meet special operational conditions, low weight for example. So, there is continuous development.
WE will consider this chemical if proven successful by other operators.

    Deadline was:

Hannah Kristina (HK) is Haliburton’s own ship that is in transit along the Norwegian coast (mostly Stavanger – KSU, but sometimes also to Sandnessjøen). The ship was rebuilt to secure Halliburton needs; new engines, and cranes – and soon she will be running on LNG. When using HK Halliburton has reduced emissions compared with land transport with 50 %, and this will be more when starting with LNG. Saved 600 truck travels in 2022 even though HK was utilized 40 % (out of business for a while).

WE Logistics should on behalf of their clients check if HK got free space, and then reduce truck travels.

08.05.23: Johan Kjos-Hanssen informed about the opportunity.

Halliburton has used Envana Catalyst software for carbon footprint. The CO2 calculator was integrated into Vida 2.1 28/4 for visibility and use by engineers in planning. This tool is used for mapping CO2 emissions in planning and then when project is finished. It includes EPD certification (certificate is valid for 5 years), transportation, bulk as it leaves Tananger, etc.). It is Halliburton’s experience that chemicals contribute to approx. 1 % of the CO2 emissions.

CO2 emissions in projects are at the moment logged manually in excel, but will be included in Envana by end 2023. Accuracy is 5-10 %.

Gunnar Lende to give an overview of CO2 footprint from Carmen and Norma on cement.

Gunnar Lende to give an overview of CO2 footprint from Carmen and Norma on cement when wells are finalised.

18.08.23: Anniken Meisler sent an e-mail to Gunnar Lende asking for information
22.08.23: Gunnar Lende sent over some information to be treated confidential (added a Legal disclaimer). So data is not attached to this report.
Information: There is some progress, but the system is not fully clarified for Norwegian operations or offshore in general. Transportation between the bases is still missing. Several meetings are planned to discuss needed adjustments of the system and further development.

CO2e data per month for the ship Hannah Kristina is calculated (transportation between HLB bases). Statistics for 2021- 2023 YTD is used to calculate average MT bulk used in transport. Per today this is 44 kg/MT between Tananger and Florø. This is not available in Envana.
