Summary
The Audit was carried out by verification of received documentation and information, presentation of requested topics, interviews of personnel, and a tour in Furuno’s production/assembly facilities in Ålesund.
The Audit was well prepared and facilitated in a good atmosphere by Furuno, and everyone participating were open and honest.
The Audit team identified one (1) non-conformance, one (1) observation, three (3) improvement suggestions, and 11 actions. None of the findings are critical for the upcoming operations.
Findings
-
NC-1: CEO lacks an HSE course for Managers.
CEO to attend a course to be according to the Working Environment Act § 3-5.
The training must be carried out in a way that is adapted to the nature, activities, risk conditions and size of the business. There are no requirements for the scope of the training, nor who shall conduct out the training or how the training shall be carried out.
08.04.24: Status was requested
12.04.24: CEO has completed HSE course. ResOp is updated. -
O-1: Furuno has not documented consent from employees to have pictures, names etc. online.
Furuno to document consent according to the Personal Data Act (GDPR). There are no formal requirements on type of consent – it can be given in writing, orally, through gestures, but it must be documentable. The Audit team think that a written consent is the easiest.
08.04.24: Status was requested
15.05.24: Ongoing survey among employees if they want their photo and contact information published on Furuno webpage.
15.05.24: As this is ongoing, the case is considered closed (ABM). -
IMP-1: Furuno is working towards becoming ISO 14001 compliant – GAP analysis is recommended.
In order to, at a later stage, be able to document that Furuno is working according to the ISO 14001:2015 standard, the Audit team recommends Furuno to perform a GAP analysis against the standard. This GAP will form a good basis for future certification. Furuno is also member of Magnet JQS and to get a “score B” one needs to GAP the management system against ISO 14001 (external environment), 45001 (working environment) and 27001 (Information security).
08.04.24: Status was requested
15.05.24: GAP analysis has been carried out and we are now looking at whether or not we should certify with ISO-14001. -
IMP-2: Routines for anonymous reporting should be considered changed.
In Furuno’s personnel handbook an external contract (auditor) is given as contact if anyone want to notify anonymously (via letter or e-mail). With writing an e-mail you are not anonymous, so the Audit team proposes that it e.g. an QR code is created for this purpose. This can be added into the personal handbook and made available for not only Furuno employees, but also contractors, suppliers, and visitors by being put up in meeting rooms, and information boards.
08.04.24: Status was requested
15.05.24: We have assessed our solution for whistleblower as satisfactory. -
IMP-3: Opportunities (positive risks) are not part of ResOp.
The Audit teams suggest that Furuno secures opportunities in ResOp, and it may be wise to assess opportunities separately, as this is another way of thinking risk.
08.04.24: Status was requested
15.05.24: We believe ResOp covers such a solution in the opportunity to submit improvement proposals. -
A-1: Furuno to send presentations.
12.02.24: Presentations and other information received.
-
A-2: WE send presentation incl. findings
09.02.24: Presentation incl. findings sent.
-
A-3: Furuno share responsibility compass (OECD) – if possible.
08.04.24: Status was requested.
12.04.24: Furuno Norge has carried out a due diligence in accordance with the OECD guideline of our own operations where strengths and possible weaknesses are revealed. We do not wish to share such a document and expect understanding for that. -
A-4: Daniel Åkerblom (technician), Stian Engvik and Rune Smenes (navigation) want to participate in radar courses.
12.04.24: Course scheduled for Autumn, but one-to-one is available with 2-3 weeks notice.
01.07.24: Action closed, as the WE personnel can book courses themselves. -
A-5: A contract between Furuno and WE needs to be made and signed.
Cooperation agreement made
System used on Toppand East and Gnomoria with success.

A-6: Send Met report on weather data when it arrives.
08.04.24: Status requested
12.04.24: The report is still not finalized by MET NOR. It is also uncertain if it will be open to public, since Equinor is the requesting unit. If open and when finished, this will be shared with WE.
15.05.24: The report is still not finalized by MET NOR. Updated expected release date is July 2024. The publication will be open and can be downloaded from this webpage: https://www.met.no/publikasjoner
01.07.24: WE will check the link on regular basis, so no further information is needed from Furuno. -
A-7: Look at the possibility of renting a weather radar. Use data as a basis for further work against operators. And use it against the helicopters.
08.04.24: Requested a feedback on how this will be secured.
30.04.24: There is not a need for a weather radar at the moment, can be considered at a later stage. -
