Noble Invincible Offshore Rig Inspection
Summary
The rig was on location on the Hod A platform performing well abandonment operations.
The overall impression is that the rig is effectively managed by Noble, rig equipment is in uniformly good condition and housekeeping is maintained at a very high standard.
The RIT identified 29 findings, 1 non-conformance, 10 observations, 13 improvement suggestions and 5 actions. The findings are described in the report in Chapter 4 and summed up in an action list for follow up in chapter 5.1. (Attached in this Audit report.)
None of the findings are considered critical for the upcoming operations.
Findings
-
IBC tanks outside bounded area.
NORSOK S-003, C11. Acute discharge and barriers. Spill collectors/drip pans should be arranged at chemical pods, machinery and equipment where leakage of chemicals, oil, fuel or mud might occur.Have drip trays available to use if it is required to move the tanks, to avoid spills to non-hazardous drain.
07/08/24 MDA109 – Additional spill tray pallets have been ordered on PR 11365230. Estimated delivery for start of Falstaff operations.
-
POB/Muster Control
The ID Token is issued by AkerBP it needs to be investigated how POB and musters will be managed during the DNO contract
Watches will be used during DNO contract. Agreement made with AkerBP about use.
Will be used only offshore, not handed out at heliport. Ops planner and medic will be in charge of updating them offshore. Issue also discussed with Asco Aviation and there are no obstacles to this solution.
-
Risk Exposed Groups documentation
Interviews did not result in a clear answer on how Noble is ensuring good management of Risk Exposed groups.
Provide documentation on exposure register. Working environment registration system.
Noble to share snips and information about Welix
-
Crack identified during inspection of travelling equipment
Provide evidence as to how the crack identified during MPI inspection was repaired.
Crack welded – work covered by WO 313015085 . Upon completion of welding arranged follow up NDT – no defects found. See attached NDT report.
-
Crown sheave guard
Check the alignment of the sheave guard to ensure that it has sufficient clearance from the drill line
Work Order 313023711 released to check alignment. .Update 25.8 . Alignment checked, sufficient clearance from cover to drillline. 23.08.24
-
Auger Emergency Stop
There is no overhead cable type emergency stop installed on the second level augers (indicated as augers 3 & 4 on attached schematic)
This was not a requirement during rig build. The understanding being that if the covers were off, then it would only be under the circumstance that the auger was isolated.
-
Reinstatement of tension system
The conductor tension (vertical and horizontal) system needs to be reinstated and commisioned
Tension table removal will be run during BOP swap. At the same time the installation of the conductor tensioning system will commence. This work will be done by NOS. Personnell booked, equipment delivered at Noble Logistics with plan for delivery at Asco and shipment when deck space and operation allows.
We can provide further status updates when the project commences if desired by DNO.
Action can be closed once system is reinstated.
-
Klover test pump inspection and calibration
Confirm high pressure test pump ise operational and calibrated prior to change out of BOP
John Townhill will supply test pump for commisioning.
Haliburton Cement unit will be used up to 12-13K and then the remaining pressure will be replied by use of of the Restato HP-pump. Restato pump has been serviced and test run, all ok. 24.08.24
-
Mud Lab
Develop plan with MI Swaco for mobilisation of mud lab equipment prior to start of Falstaff
Propose that action belongs to DNO
-
Wireline foundation
Confirm deck interfaces between wireline unit and confirm need for adapter frames
Noble planner to request information about the unit that will be used and share with TSL for verification
-
Paint.
Develop remedial painting plan with specific focus on hand rails and brackets where a drops risk could develop
The rig has an annual painting project where it is being decided beforehand which areas to be adressed. DROPS inspections are constantly being carried out all over the rig, and should a PDO be identified it will be fixed.
-
DROPS inspection
Incorporate the information from the laminated inspection sheets into the OTG/ on the go check sheet
UPDATE 05.8.2024: Laminated inspection sheets are already on the OTG,
-
Crane Sheave wear
Perform gauge measurements of crane sheaves and assess need for replacement
Sheave measurement is done on annual basis by NOV as a part of annual survey . Latest survey done Feb 2024 – see sample from port aft crane, document L4380-R-RA-006 . Follow up actions arranged on WO 313020715 , waiting for spare parts to replace questioned sheaves.
-
Forklift Tyres
Review condition tyres of deck forklift and change if required
During daily check of forklift, condition of tires are being checked and tested. Depth of grooves are also checked. There have been no issues with the tires, while driving on deck.
-
Derrick Elevator
The derrick elevator facilitates the safe movement of people, tools and equipment up the derrick fr maintenance and repair tasks. The elevator needs to be re paired and returned to service.
Derrick elevator is now in use.
-
Fingerboard Latches
Service /repair defective latched to ensure thay are in the fully down position when closed
Maintenance to be performed as per IFS. However, in operations we know that with a full derrick it is not always possible to access all fingers. When derrick is emptied of tubular, fingers will be cleaned and lubricated.22.8.24
Estimated close out date will be upon backload of 5” DP at end of Hod A.
-
Drill line Deadman
Paint make up sequence and torque on bolts of deadman anchor to ensure they are correctly made up when performing a slip and cut
Procedure M-CPH-1171-43721 (section 25) is quite explicit with regards to how the bolts should be torqued up. The Control of Work is exercised through compliance with this procedure. no further action is being taken. 2.8.24 DSL Andy Lutman
-
Drill line Replacement Plan
Noble to confirm that spare drill line is available for mobisation to the rig and confirm plan for change out (to ensure that it is performed at a convenient time during the well construction)
Drill line has been changed – finished 19.8.24.
-
Hydraulic hose change out in Hydraracker
A leak from the hydraracker as the potential to reach the sea. Change out hoses on hydraracker that are older than 5 years old
TESS will mobilize ultimo August for changing the last hoses not yet changed. Hoses produced and stored onboard.
-
Reinstate all hydraulic pumps of HPU
Repair HPU pumps and ensure that all are available for use
3 ea pumps are already overhauled, and 4th pump sent for overhaul. All 5 pumps in HPU operational. All pumps available and operational pr 24.08.24

21.8 Final report not received from Brekke Strand yet, despite mutiple reminders. Promised delivery by end of August by vendor.
-
Employee engagement survey
Issue survey report with experience for the Q1 2024 Employee engagement survey
We do not receive an individual report for Invincible, only a company wide report that I will not share. Instead I have attached the communications plan that we use for follow up of the report. We have an ongoing process to demonstrate to crews that we do take action based on their feedback, and that we are interested in their improvement ideas. We have used the Noble communications plan to discuss one or two questions for a 6 week period before moving on to the next questions. This gives continuity to the work and allows us to focus more on specifics.
-

Request DNO to provide information to the offshore crew, in order to create confidence in the safety in the use of a Puma helicopter for the Falstaff operation
After inspection remark from DNO:
The helicopter that’s planned to use for transport of Falstaff, is not a Super Puma helicopter. The one planned for Falstaff use is a Puma L1 helicopter. This aircraft has a similar look, but is configured with a different engine and gear box.Action: DNO has established an information plan together with Noble Invincible management, to mitigate the identified issue
Ongoing information to crews and information meeting held. Closed.
Update 14.08.2024:
“DNO have agreed with CHC that we will change our helicopter from an Airbus L1 to a Sikorsky S-92 for the duration of the Falstaff operations.” -

Evaluate bunding around the liquid additive container and associated bulk chemical tanks that are stored on the cantilever to facilitate spill cleanup and avoid chemicals entering the skimmer tank
-
Wellhead Deployment
The wellhead will be deployed through the moonpool hatch as a SIMOPS activity when drilling 24” Hole. With the hatch removed there is a potential for fall from height. A plan for temporary barrier installation is required
This is incorrect. It was discussed but later decided to be too cumbersome. Wellhead will be deployed through the Rotary and Moonpool hatch will remain closed
-
Auger Grating.
There is no grating installed on the second level augers (indicated as augers 3 & 4 on attached schematic) . This exposes personnel to the significant hazard of rotating auger flightsGrating installed as recommended 2.8.24.
