What happened in Surface section:
Due to protecting melons on riser joints, the riser joints were not sufficiently balanced. This combined with problems using the riser bay caused deck handling problems
Riser guards that was fitted on the riser was not ideal for stacking the risers on the Riser deck. Had to lay 3 in the bottom row, followed by 2 with 3 on top.

What Was Planned

Run BOP on marine riser.

What Was Learned

It’s important that the riser joints are correctly balanced onshore to use less time offshore to balance the riser joints prior to handling (used shackles to balance the riser joints).

What Actions Are Required

Odfjell need to come up with a solution so that all the riser joints can be stacked in the riser bay instead of being spread all over the rig, taking up valuable deck space for other equipment (NOTE: this was only riser for 358 m water depth).
