What happened in P&A:
Cutting job planned with long knives to ensure ability to cut through casing joints in case of incorrect casing tally. Longer knives yields larger cut surface for knives due to angle of the knives at cut initiation, and thereby longer time required to cut casing. To be able to see the pressure drop after successfully making casing cut, the knives must be fully extended. When the knives have actually made the cut of the 9 7/8” casing, we would not see the pressure drop until knives is fully extended, meaning a lot of extra grinding needed. Q125 casing is also made of quite hard composite, making it even harder to cut.

What Was Planned

Cut 9 7/8” casing with Ardyne Trident system (Tempest cutter)

What Was Learned

Plan for standard, shorter knives.

What Actions Are Required

Follow up with cutting service company in planning phase to ensure correct knives are planned and shipped.
