Question

It is sometimes run with reduced power from auxiliary engines for operation of the DP to save fuel. If the thrusters are planned to be driven with reduced capacity or operated with less robust modes of operation in the power supply, such as two-split configuration in moderate sea conditions, how do you ensure sufficient capacity to maintain the position in the event of rapid changes in weather conditions or single faults in the DP system?

Answer

The rig is not class approved to operate with closed bus ties during DP operations and will as such be operating in a 3-split configuration set-up. The Power Management System is set-up with load dependent start/stop configuration, enabling the engines to auto start on power demand as a result of weather conditions. This is as per design criteria. The DP Operators and Engine Room Operators are monitoring correct set-up by use of DP handover checklists every 6 hour.
