Deepsea Yantai

What happened in Surface section:
After landing the 18 3/4″ LPWHH, the RT would not release from the WH. Several times they attempted to release it with a right hand turn and 10-15 mt overpull with no luck.
After 2 hours and 50 mt overpull, the WHRT was released and recovered to surface.
Indications were, when the tool was release, it was off to one side of the SMO, suggesting the rig was not correctly aligned.

What Was Planned

Land 18 3/4″ LPWHH and release RT

What Was Learned

Using the RMR system the suction module (SMO) on the 30″ conductor impacted the visibility of the indicator rod on the RT it also restricted the rig ability to move, with a radius of only a few meters available.

What Actions Are Required

Ensure rig alignment & ocean current in considered prior to releasing RT. Especially in deeper water operations.
