What happened in Pre-Lay:
Spud BHA was loaded at Gomez location but not the conductor. Result was that conductor could not be loaded until anchor handling completed, meaning it was suddenly a critical path operation because BHA could not be finalised until the conductor was measured. If the conductor had been all 30″ it would not have mattered – could fine tune TD based on length of 30″. But we had a 36″ X 30″ conductor to run which meant having to space out the position of a 42″ hole opener.

What Was Planned

Have conductor and spud BHA on board before arrival on location

What Was Learned

To cover the possibility of conductor not being on board in good time prior to spud, have DrilQuip personnel measure the effective lengths of all conductor shoe, intermediate and housing joints before they leave the DrilQuip base and send the numbers to the client.

What Actions Are Required

DrilQuip personnel to measure the effective lengths of all conductor shoe, intermediate and housing joints before they leave the DrilQuip base and send the numbers to the client. If QA/QC of the data is required and/or there are liability issues, then a client witness should attend the Base.
