Negative BOP LL with PGNiG

Shrek (6507/5-9 S, 6507/5-9 A) – Reservoir section

What happened:

When P/T lower pipe ram a leak was discovered in the choke line latch coupling between LMRP and BOP and was confirmed by ROV.

What was planned:

Testing pipe rams (BOP) prior to drilling 8 1/2″ reservoir (sidetrack) section.

What was learned:

Afer disconnecting the LMRP from BOP stack the ROV replaced seal rings for both kill and choke lines. It was apparent that the choke seal had been washed out and been exposed to tremendous forces. Sand in the fluid when circulating might have caused this washout.

What actions are required:

As this is arguably the most critical equipment for the entire operation, it should evaluated to reduce the amount of pressure testing the BOP is exposed to or introduce new rules to replace choke and kill seals at certain intervals.
