Songesand (35/4-2) – Reservoir section
What happened:
The cold temperature in the riser and 300 m below seabed made the WBM more viscous than under normal circumstances. This led to high ECD values when circulating: 1.36 sg EMW (FIT: 1.36 sg). The normal LWD had a lower flow range threshold of 1200 lpm. The tool could not be used and a low-flow LWD tool with flow range of 800 -1200 lpm was mobilized.
What was planned:

What was learned:
The lo-flow tool did not improve the situation. Turned out to be the mud which was causing the high ECD.
What actions are required:
In future, ensure proper simulations have been performed regarding the mud system to be used and the conditions it will be used in.
