What happened in Production section:
Extremeley slow drilling. At worst it was down to 1-2m/hr. At best it was 9-12m/hr.

What Was Planned

Drill 12 1/4″ hole and set 9 5/8″ casing effortlessly in mainbore (and the subsequent sidetrack).

What Was Learned

WBM mud in the clays in Haltenbanken (well known area where all operators try to avoid the use of WBM).

Sticky clay, balled up bits/stabs, swelling clays, tight hole, slow progress and finally; stuck casing as a result.

This added weeks of operational “downtime” due to being forced to cut casing casing and perform sidetrack drilling. Which also saw extremely slow progress, tight spots, balled up bits and almost a stuck sidetrack casing as well.

What Actions Are Required

In these areas OBM should always be used. Always.
