Negative BOP LL with Wellesley

What happened:

Pulled casing hanger with upper annular closed and C&K lines closed.

What was planned:

Pulling 13 5/8″ casing hanger with seal assembly with BOP upper annular closed.

What was learned:

Due to C&K and annular being closed, was not possible to pull hanger completely free due to vacuum effect. Had to open choke line and then pull free, and then close choke line again.

What actions are required:

For future hanger pulling with seal assembly still attached, it is crucial that choke or kill line is open when pulling free hanger, then close the line. This to not create any vacuum when pulling, which makes the pull almost impossible, or required significant overpull.

What Was Done

Written lesson learned of the incident and incorporated into the ‘As Done’ DOP.
