Borgland Dolphin

What happened in Intermediate section:
Decided to use the Franks casing circulating tool FA-1

What Was Planned

Run 9 5/8″ casing

What Was Learned

Franks manning was insufficient. Two persons at each shift, total of 4. Two of the four were junior and could not operate alone. When using the FA-1, the Franks operator runs the FA-1 (elevator), Flush Mounted Slips, pick up elevator and the casing tong. The driller is almost doing nothing, just moving string up and down. The casing operators are standing outside exposed to cold and wind. It was very cold and windy this time, winwalls on Borgland Dolphin are very low and give little protection. Franks crew could not leave for 12 hrs, no food, no breaks, no toilet. The situation was made worse, buy several hydraulic and signal faults on the Franks equipment. There was a lot of hectic troubleshooting. A third person on the shift could have called town and troubleshot, and the operation could have continued.

What Actions Are Required

Use 3 persons on each shift if there are plans to use the FA-1 tool. Or x-train Dolphin roughnecks to operate some of the Franks equipment.

What Was Done

We had to serve them food at rig floor and give them worm drinks outside. We took a short stop in casing shoe and circulated and rotated the casing string. This allowed Franks crew to have lunch and visit toilet.
